We are proud to bring you New Zealand’s most extensive range of wood fires.

Choosing the best heating solution is one of the most important decisions you can make for your home. A wood fire creates a focal point in your living space that becomes the heart of your home, whether you choose a freestanding, insert or built-in model. Our fires are designed with clean-burning technology to deliver impressive heat output with very low emissions.

A Metro wood fire is an excellent environmentally conscious heating choice and will make your home warmer, drier and healthier. You can’t beat the natural warmth, comfort and ambience of a crackling fire while the cold weather batters your home during winter.

Our wood fires are designed to heat up quickly and reach their peak output within an hour of lighting.

Peak output is detailed in kilowatts (kW) and is the maximum amount of heat that a fire is capable of producing during the burn cycle. Heat output varies for each model and is also dependent on the quality and amount of fuel used and how frequently the firebox is reloaded during operation.

We have included a heating area guide with each model to help you work out the heating capacity required for your home. This is based on a 2.4m ceiling height in an average climate with insulation to current standards. Talk to your Metro specialist for advice on the best model to deliver the heating capacity your home requires.

Choosing the right size Metro fire for your home and heating requirements with correct operation and good dry fuel, will provide you many years of warmth and reliable heating.

Your Metro fire specialist will complete a site visit to help you make the right heating choice. Your homes location and surrounding environment should always be considered, and there a number of factors to ensure the best fire and flue system are chosen. A coastal installation for example, will need more regular maintenance over an inland environment. Paint finish fires will benefit from periodic maintenance to retain their appearance and if your home is located in a high wind zone you may require a specific type of flue system and cowling.

Make a heating choice both you and the environment can feel good about.

Using wood for warmth has been a practice for over a million years. Unlike non-renewable fossil fuels, wood is a renewable energy source and when harvested from sustainable forestry, is a better environmental choice.

As trees grow in their natural ecosystems, they capture carbon from the atmosphere and store it in their biomass.

Wood is a natural, carbon neutral fuel when burned efficiently and cleanly, generates no more carbon dioxide (CO2) than if the tree was left to decompose naturally.

So if you love warmth, love wood.

Choosing the correct Metro fire

Choosing the right size Metro fire for your home and heating requirements with correct operation and good dry fuel, will provide you many years of warmth and reliable heating. Determine the area you wish to heat, and calculate how many square metres this covers. Heating area calculations are based on a nominal ceiling height of 2.4m with insulation levels to current New Zealand standards. If your home has a higher stud height or the insulation levels in your home need upgrading, you may require more heating capacity.
