The Green Choice
The environment is not just ours; it’s our children’s and the generations to come. Many decisions you make on a daily basis affect our planet and the type of heating you install in your home is one of the biggest contributions you can make to our environment. Climate change is real, and everyone can help to make a difference.
Many people think gas or electricity is the right choice for the environment, but gas like all fossil fuels is not renewable and produces carbon. Electricity can be clean and green if it comes from hydro or wind generation, but much of New Zealand’s electricity comes from gas and coal, and then distributed through a very inefficient national grid. Metro wood fires operate at very high efficiencies and the energy is generated at the point where it is used – In your home!
Wood is carbon neutral
Wood is carbon neutral releasing the same amount of CO2 when burnt as if it was left to decompose, and the CO2 produced by burning wood is re-absorbed by plants and trees through the process of photosynthesis, helping the trees to grow and producing oxygen for us to breathe.
Renewable fuel
Wood is the worlds No. 1 renewable fuel. New Zealand’s climate produces a lush green environment, ideal for pine plantations which ensure long term availability, at the lowest cost of any fuel available. Wood is simply stored energy from the sun. A single kilogram of dry pine holds over 5kW’s of energy, so think of wood as “solar blocks”.
