Metro ECO Flue Systems

ECO Flue Systems are an innovation from Metro based on many years of development and testing to achieve what Metro’s engineers believe to be the optimum performance and efficiency possible from a flue system.

Shown in the ECO Flue System diagram, the heat produced by your Metro wood fire stays in your home. The cooling air is drawn from either the ceiling cavity or outside the home. This results in a warmer home with reduced fuel consumption.

Metro ECO Option Kit

Metro’s ECO Option Kit installed in combination with the ECO Flue System provides an external air supply to the ECO Flue System. This enables homes without a vented ceiling cavity such as a sloping ceiling to still enjoy the additional performance and efficiency benefits the ECO Flue System provides.

Metro offer the ECO Flue system with Stainless Steel Liners as an option for customers that live near the coast, or for those wanting a superior looking finish.

ECO Flue Systems

Metro ECO Flue Systems differ from conventional flue systems in that the cooling air for the system is not taken from inside the home but is drawn in from outside. The energy savings achieved by installing a Metro ECO Flue System are impressive. Independent testing of a conventional flue system resulted in 450 litres per minute of the warmest air available in the room being drawn out of the home.

Conventional Flue Systems

The conventional flue system illustration shows how the flue draws air from the room to keep itself cool, resulting in the warmest air from your wood fire being drawn out of your home. This discarded warm air is then replaced with cold outside air drawn back into your home. On a cold winter’s night this hugely inefficient system will empty an average sized room once every hour of potentially 45ºC air. It replaces it with the outside air which in some regions will be below zero.

Metro ECO Cowl - Enhance Performance

Metro ECO Cowl Metro’s ECO Cowl comes standard with all ECO Flue Systems, further enhancing the performance of your Metro wood fire. Operating on a vertical discharge principal, the Metro ECO Cowl induces updraft to the flue gases, increasing draw within the fluepipe and enhancing the performance of your Metro wood fire.

Standard Cowl Most standard cowls have a ‘chinaman’s hat’ in the top of them which restricts the flow of gases. The smoke from the fire is vented vertically up the flue system and then restricted from being directly released into the atmosphere by the ‘chinaman’s hat’ in the top of the cowl as illustrated.
